Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Dota 2 MMR and our calculator
About the Calculator
Our calculator uses the official Dota 2 ranking thresholds and is updated regularly to reflect any changes Valve makes to the system. The MMR requirements for each rank are based on Valve's official system.
The games estimation assumes 25 MMR per win, which is accurate when your rank confidence is high (near 100%). If you're new to ranked or recently recalibrated, you might gain more MMR per win initially.
Yes! Our Dota 2 MMR Calculator is completely free to use. No registration, no downloads, and no hidden fees. Simply enter your MMR and get instant results.
To find your MMR:
- Open Dota 2
- Click on your profile
- Click on the "Stats" tab
- Look in the top-right corner - your MMR will be displayed there
The calculator works with any MMR value you enter. Since Dota 2 now uses a unified ranked system, your displayed rank is based on your highest MMR (whether from solo or party queue). Simply enter whichever MMR you want to check.
About MMR and Ranking
The amount of MMR you gain or lose depends on your rank confidence:
- High Confidence (near 100%): You typically gain or lose around 25 MMR per game. This happens when you've played many games and the system is confident in your ranking.
- Low Confidence: You can gain or lose 40-50+ MMR per game. This occurs when you're new to ranked, returning after a long break, or during seasonal recalibration.
The system adjusts confidence based on your play patterns. Consistent play builds confidence, while long absences or unusual performance can lower it.
Dota 2 seasons typically last approximately 6 months. At the end of each season, medals are reset and all players must complete recalibration matches to receive their new medal for the upcoming season. The exact timing can vary slightly based on Valve's schedule and major updates.
Immortal is the highest rank in Dota 2, starting at 5620 MMR. Unlike other medals, Immortal doesn't have star levels. Instead, the top 5000 Immortal players receive a leaderboard rank number displayed on their medal.
The higher your MMR in Immortal, the better your leaderboard position. Top players can reach 10,000+ MMR and compete for the #1 spot in their region.
About Ranking Up
To rank up efficiently:
- Maintain consistency: Aim for a 52-55% win rate over many games
- Master a hero pool: Focus on 5-10 heroes you're comfortable with
- Focus on fundamentals: Last-hitting, map awareness, and positioning beat flashy plays
- Watch your replays: Learn from your losses and identify patterns in your mistakes
- Stay positive: Good team morale significantly improves win rates
- Take breaks: Avoid playing on tilt - it only leads to more losses
Remember, there's no shortcut to ranking up. Focus on improving your skills rather than just winning individual games.
For most players, only wins and losses affect MMR. Individual performance metrics like KDA, hero damage, or farm don't directly change your MMR gain or loss.
The exception is during calibration or when rank confidence is low. In these cases, the system may consider additional factors to more quickly determine your appropriate skill level. Once your confidence is high, it's purely based on winning or losing.
The number of games needed depends on:
- Your current MMR and distance to next rank
- Your MMR per win (typically 25 when confidence is high)
- Your win rate - a 60% win rate climbs much faster than 51%
For example, to gain one full star (typically 154 MMR):
- With 100% win rate: ~7 wins (154 ÷ 25 = 6.16)
- With 60% win rate: ~35 games (7 wins ÷ 0.60)
- With 52% win rate: ~175 games (7 wins ÷ 0.52)
Yes, but there are restrictions:
- In regular ranked, there's a MMR difference limit for parties (typically 2800 MMR)
- If the MMR gap is too large, you can't queue together in standard ranked
- You can always play together in unranked matches
- Some regions and game modes have different restrictions
These restrictions exist to ensure fair matchmaking and prevent boosting.
